French problems similar to those of other European countries (rapid inflation, declining real wages, potential friction over New World colonies, rising middle class, unhappy nobles) Problems specific to France (inefficient tax collection system, rivalry with Hapsburgs Religious Division (French Wars of Religion, St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre as examples) Henry IV (economic success, religious compromise, care for peasants, a much-loved king: but he gets assassinated!)
