Tips are paid to people who provide services such as cutting hair or serving meals. • A tip is usually a percent of the cost of the service. Many people consider 15% of the cost of the service a reasonable tip, although tips can be less than or greater than 15%. • Whatever percent is used, the tip is calculated based on the cost of the service.
