  1. Acute Multifocal Pigment Epithelium Epitheliopathy (AMPEE) AMPPPE starts as rapidly progressive visual loss in both eyes. Usually there is a gray-white subretinal lesion in the pigment epithelium. Although the cause of this condition is thought to be a viral or flu-like, the actual organism is unknown. The prognosis is generally good with return of visual acuity. There may be long standing pigmentary changes in the retina.
