She joined the Shakers at the age of 22. Shakers were given their name because of the dancing and “shaking” they did while worshiping. Ann Lee brought “Shakers” from England to the American colonies. She thought celibacy was the only way people could go move further in their journey on earth. She was married and her marriage was said to be unhappy. Mother Ann Lee
