It’s about the Five Core Propositions Accomplished teachers …
Eligibility • At least three years experience as a pre- K-12 classroom teacher or school counselor in a public or private school • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution • A valid teaching license or a license to practice as a school counselor National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
Changes ahead……. The certification process is changing for teacher who begin the process in 2014… National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
From now through – May, 2014 Candidates who begin the process nowwill follow the current process: 6 assessments and 4 portfolios. Submit portfolios electronically 5/13/14, complete assessments by 6/15/14 and get scores in 11/14 National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
WL Candidates who begin in 2014-15 cycle will follow the revised process. 2014-15: Student work component 2015-16: Assessment & Video components 2016-17: Documented Accomplishments component *3 year process, Scores: November, 2017 National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
Four Portfolio Entries Six Assessment Center Exercises From 1997- 2013….. Four Portfolio Entries • Demonstrate accomplished teaching • Include videos of large- and small-group classroom practice • Require student work samples • Document continuous learning, leadership, and collaboration Six Assessment Center Exercises • Demonstrate accomplished proficiency with subject matter • Are delivered at a computer-based testing center • Are timed, with open-response prompts

No more Take One! After this year, Take One! will be discontinued. Take One! was designed to break the process into smaller chunks. With the revised National Board certification process, all candidates will have that option. National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
Options for Take One Candidates…… Take One! Candidates who planned to “bank” their 2013-14 score for the future will not be able to do so . Knowing scores from 2013-14 will not be able to be applied to full candidacy in future years, each Take One! Candidate should consider changing to full candidacy in 2013-14. Opportunities to field test certain components of the new certification system will be announced by NBPTS. National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
Lower fee, Pay as you go and feedback after each submission Lower fee: $1900 ( approximately $475 per component) Candidates pay for each component as they complete it. Candidates receive feedback on each component after completion. ( timeline?) National Board for Professional Teaching Standards

Candidates will be able to choose which available components they take each year of the process Note: Due to the ongoing revision of the Career and Technical Education (CTE), candidates for the CTE certificate will begin the new process in 2015-16. Financial Support WI will reimburse up to $2,000 of out of pocket expenses ( save receipts) 9 year stipend of $2,500. ( $5,000 high needs schools)

What was the biggest obstacle to completing this goal? “TIME!” “Not having a rubric to help understand the expectations better was difficult.” “Writing the portfolio entries and videotaping” “Putting it all together”
How has this process impacted your teaching? “ I’m constantly focused on what’s important when I’m learning or teaching.” “Because of this experience, I have the enthusiasm of a new teacher, with the experience of an old one !!” There is not a day that goes by that I don't reflect on my teaching and the impact it has had on the students.
