The Dental Prophy • Periodontal probe • Used like a miniature intraoral ruler to measure attachment levels, sulcus and pocked depths, loss of bone in fucation areas, and size of oral lesions. • Used to assess mobility of teethand the presence of gingival bleeding. • Williams’ markings have millimeter increments at 1,2,3,5,7,8,9 and 10mm.

  13. The Dental Prophy Ultrasonic Scaler / Polisher—uses vibrations and irrigation to remove tartar from surface of tooth.

  15. The Dental Prophy Polishing – VERY IMPORTANT because smoothes imperfections on the tooth surface caused by the scaling process. Without polishing, tartar will build more quickly.
