Artful Learning ® LEONARD BERNSTEIN CENTER ® Questions & Discussion
Teaching Philosophy • Kindergarten is an exciting and special time for a child. It is a child’s first exposure to elementary school. • I strive to create a warm, welcoming and nurturing environment for my students in a classroom community that creates friendships and values all student backgrounds, beliefs, cultures and experiences. • By setting up the classroom in a very organized and structured manner, students can succeed and feel comfortable in an environment where they can easily manage their learning tools and resources.
…. • Classroom rules are simple and child-friendly: be safe, be responsible, be respectful. • The behavior management system that is implemented provides students the opportunity to recognize their mistakes and learn from them. It is a positive system that reinforces good behavior, effort and success! • Lessons are delivered in a variety of ways to meet the needs of all learners in the classroom, as well as expose students to new and exciting ways of learning. • Cooperative learning activities • Open ended independent work (journals, writing, etc) • Centers (“Daily 5”) • Hands on • Arts integration • Accommodates different learning styles
School-Home Partnerships • Family participation is highly desired and we encourage everyone to contribute one hour of volunteering a month. • Taking home projects to help cut, file, glue, etc. • Working with small groups in the classroom • Reading to the class or with individual students • Helping run an activity • Community events
