  10. Origins • The VH1 teachers expressed concerns about how/what to teach in a setting that they were unfamiliar with. • They needed practical lesson plans that could be taught “straight out of the box”. • Reflected on my personal experiences teaching in a keyboard lab. • Included only classroom tested lesson plans that worked for me.

  11. Rationale • Give teachers with various levels of technical expertise successfullesson plans that show how a keyboard lab can be used in the music classroom. • Give teachers ideas on how to use the keyboard lab to implement their own curriculum. • Adaptability.

  12. Structure • Not intended as a complete course of study. • 15 Classroom tested lesson plans. • Four categories: • Music Skills • Composition Skills • General Music Concepts • Vocal Music

  13. Each lesson can be taught in either one 45-minute class period, or spread out over an entire unit of study. • Connections to the National Standards.

  14. Each lesson plan includes: • Rationale • Clear Objective • Required Materials • Step-by-Step Procedure • Outcomes • Extensions • Reproducible Student Handouts • Technical instructions (suggested patches, GEC3 mode) • Musical examples with MIDI files.
