THE NATIONAL FLAG OF THE UK The national flag of the state is formed by the union of the cross of Saint George (red on a white field - Britain), the diagonal cross of Saint Patrick (red on a white field – Ireland), the diagonal cross of Saint Andrew (white on the blue field – Scotland).
The geographic position of the UK The UK is a group of islands, located off the north-west coast of Europe, across the English Channel, Strait of Dover, and the North Sea. It is borded with Ireland to west & France to south-east. It is washed by the Atlantic Ocean in the north-west, the North Sea in the east & by the English Channel in the south.
The British Isles The British Isles is the geographical name of the 2 large islands of Great Britain & Ireland and a lot of small islands around them. Ireland consists of Northern Ireland & the Republic of Ireland which is not part of the UK
Great Britain Great Britain is the name of the island which is made up of Scotland, Wales and England.
The UK The UK consists of four parts: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Their capitals are London, Cardiff, Edinburg, Belfast.
THE QUEEN • The head of the state is the QUEEN. • Elizabeth II (b.1926) has been the head of the country since 1952. She is married, has 4 children: Prince Charles, Princess Anna, Prince Andrew & Prince Edward.
THE PARLIAMENT • Parliament is the legislative governing body of the UK. • The Head of the government is Prime-Minister. • Tony Blair has been Prime – Minister since 1997.
The history of London London is so old. The Romans founded it more than 2000 years ago. They started London as a fortress. Later they transformed it into a town. The Houses of Parliament • The Prime-Minister & his government discuss matters of state at the House of Parliament. The building is 940 feet long & has two miles of corridors.

Museums Madame Tussaud’s museum is one of the most popular & famous museums in London. Every year about two million people visit it.
