Systems/Clerical Issues • Other organisations utilise the BHS Day Procedure Unit. • The Northern Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital and Monash IVF patients • 4 different sets of paperwork. • Care needs to be taken to ensure that all documentation is complete for each one.

Pre Admission Process at BHS • This is a ‘Weeding Out’ process rather than a ‘Working Up’ process. • Health Questionnaire MUST be completed or no booking date given. • Phone contact only – no visual contact made until the day of surgery. • Confirmation phone call made 2 days prior to the operation date. • No formal pre admission clinic. Strict criteria.

Issues for a Stand Alone Unit • Hours of operation. • Pain control. • Code Blues. • Admission or transfer up. • Follow up of patients. • General Anaesthetics • Sedation • Local Anaesthetics
Conclusion • There are few internal machinations or political issues typical of a large tertiary institution. • There are no emergencies patients that need to take priority. • Despite all of the challenges, the contribution made by the team enables the system to work.
