Electrolytes = substances that can be conduct electricity either in molten state orin aqueous solution & undergo chemical changes
Non-electrolytes = substances that cannot conduct electricity either in molten state or in aqueous solution
Example of electrolytes: • acids: HCl, HNO3 • alkalis: NaOH, KOH • salt solution: NaCl(aq.) • molten salts: PbBr2 • *ionic substances
Ionic compounds cannot conduct electricity in solid state because the ions are held in a lattice & do not move freely
Ionic compounds can conduct electricity in molten state or aqueous sol. because the ions are free to move around
