  2. Purpose of School Council • Through the active participation of parents, to improve student achievement and enhance accountability • School Councils make recommendations to the Principal or to the Board, as the primary way of achieving their purpose

  3. Representation • Principal • Teaching rep • Non- teaching rep • Parent/guardian • Community rep

  4. Each school’s Bylaws out line • How – election process • number of parent/guardian representatives we set ours no more than 9 Parent/Guardian is to be the Chair of the Council

  5. A Rural ExperienceParent/Guardian representation • Actual number is not important • What is important that parents communicate with the administration of the school – Principal and the Board and with other parents • We all need to know what is going on for the sake of our children’s education

  6. Community representation • Not directly involved • Can see the school from a different perspective • EL easy to find as it is a small community and everyone is involved • Larger center may be more difficult
