NCERT Maths Solutions Class 8 – Chapter 16 Visualizing Shapes – Prism – Part ii Class 8 Maths:-In the previous article, we have discussed the multi-dimensional Visualizing Shapes. Now we will discuss Shapes – Prism. A polyhedron whose side faces are parallelogram and bases are congruent parallel polygons is called a prism. Terms associated with a prism. Base :-The end on which a prism is supposed to stand is called the base of the prism. Every prism has two bases. Height : – The perpendicular distance between the ends of the prism is called the height of the prism. Axis : – The straight line joining the centres of the base of a prism is called the axis of the prism. Length : – The portion of the axis that lies between the parallel ends is called the length of the prism. Lateral Face : – All faces other than the bases of the prism are called the lateral face of the prism. Lateral Edges : – The lines of the interaction of the lateral faces of the prism are called the lateral edges of the prism. The various types of the prism are :- Right Prism: – If the lateral edges of a prism are perpendicular to its bases a prism is called a right prism. On the other scenario, it is called an oblique. Right prism have i. Length=height ii. All the lateral faces are rectangular iii. All the lateral edges are equal to the height of the prism iv. A number of lateral edges=number of lateral faces=number of sides in the base.
Triangular prism: – If the base of a prism is triangles, a prism is called a triangular prism. A triangular prism has i. 6 vertices and 9 edges ii. 2 triangular bases iii. 3 rectangular lateral faces Right Triangular prism: – A triangular prism whose lateral edges are perpendicular to its bases is called a right triangular prism Watch animated videos for a better understanding of types of the prism, click here Class 8th Maths for demos. The prism is further classified on the basis of the number of sides in the bases. Rectangular prism :- It is also called cuboid or rectangular solid. It has 6 rectangular faces along with 8 vertices and 12 edges. Pentagonal prism : – A pentagonal prism has 2 pentagons as bases along with 5 rectangular lateral faces, 10 vertices, and 15 edges.
Hexagonal prism : – If the numbers of sides in the base of the prism are six, it is known as a hexagonal prism. Parallelepiped : – If the bases of a quadrilateral prism are parallelograms it is called a parallelepiped Notes for Visualizing shapes – Polyhedron Rational Number Square and Square roots For more articles, demos, sample papers, NCERT Maths solutions Class 8, kindly visit our 8th Class Maths Section For more details Call us : 8800999280/8800999284
