Collaboration meetingMaiori June 4th , 2007 • today status: • Electronic Detectors • Brick production and detector filling • Outcome from the committees and CNGS schedule • OPERA sensitivity updated • Conclusions Spokesperson report Yves Déclais
Electronic Detectors : • all electronic detectors installed • commissioning completed • ( except HPT/SM2 and VETO : in progress ) • DAQ stabilized and the Virtual Control Room system operative • Electronic detectors Analysis Software stabilized • ( except for the HPT ) Spokesperson report
HPT installation completed Spokesperson report
VETO installation completed Spokesperson report
2. Brick Production and Detector Filling Spokesperson report
Detector filling in progress Spokesperson report
Brick Production and Detector filling schedule As discussed at the Funding agency meeting and the committees Rate run start (sept 15th) run stop (nov 15th) det. completed (+21 weeks) (+30 weeks) 150000 bricks 2 drums/day 50680 68986 sept 12th 08 (2034 bricks/week) ( 372 evts)*(+70 weeks) 2.5 drums/day 58315 81202 June 20th 08 (2543 bricks/ week from june 1st 07) ( 441 evts)*(+58 weeks) 3 drums/day 59334 86802 May 2nd 08 (3052 bricks/week from sept 1st 07) ( 465 evts ) *(+41 weeks) * : number of CNGS events in the bricks for 1019 pot
Detector filling • 2 drums/day achieved in a steadily mode for the BAM and the BMS • BUT: • lack of shifters from the collaboration ! • lack of funds (and administrative bottlenecks) • + to insure the needed upgrade for the BAM in due time • + to hire the needed manpower ( BAM & BMS) in due time Spokesperson report
3. Outcome of the committees • SPSC (17/04/07) : • SPSC supports a commissioning CNGS beam in 2007 (2-3 weeks) which will enable OPERA to test the experiment further. A decision on a physics run has been delayed to the June 26th SPSC meeting. The brick installation progress reported at that time will be an important piece of information for the discussion. • LNGSC (18-19/04/07) : no feed back … Spokesperson report
CNGS commissioning already scheduled • ( Hoping horns fixing will be in time ): • week 38 (1 CNGS cycle) • weeks 39 and 41 (3 CNGS cycles), break during week 40. Spokesperson report
3. OPERA sensitivity revisited • final number of films available: • ( 1 box = 36 packs (57 films), 1 brick = 57 + 2 films ) • 24 boxes including each 2030 unrefreshed films 825 bricks • 4409 boxes refreshed at Tono mine • maximum number of bricks : 154,111 • ( losses are being investigated ) • ~70 % of the initial target mass • Visit (March 14-17) of the inspector (head of the administration office) from Nagoya University no feedback no funds available in Japan • Funding Agency Meeting (March 23th) INFN-IN2P3-BMBF-CH-Be: • no way for finding extra resources in Europe • rely only on the proton intensity increase for sensitivity recovery Spokesperson report
