5. ¦ is the regulatory authority in the veterinary and food safety field, public central administration specialised institution, with legal personality, under Government subordination, in Prime Minister’s coordination, through it Chancellery.
¦ has responsibilities for the functioning of the whole single veterinary and food safety system (from technical point of view)
¦ the purposes of the Authority are:
? the protection of animal health, the protection of animals, the prevention of transmitting diseases from animals to humans, the safety of foods of animal origin intended for human consumption, the sanitation of feedstuffs for animals and the protection of the environment, relevant to the breeding of animals;
? the fulfillment of food safety, starting with the production of raw materials to the distribution of food to the consumers.

6. The National Codex Alimentarius Committee for Romania decided that in initial stage, the activity is carried out under following 5 subcommittees:
Subcommittee for labeling;
Subcommittee for sampling and analyzing methods;
Subcommittee for food hygiene;
Subcommittee for Inspection of import/export and Certification System;
