  2. Iambic Pentameter • iamb= a foot of one unaccented syllable followed by an accented syllable • Pent= Five • Meter= the rhythm in verse poetry • Iambic Pentameter= five iambic feet per line • The most common meter in English poetry

  3. Iambic Pentameter • Poetry uses “feet” to create the rhythm • A foot is made up of two or three syllables, with one syllable accented • stamp-stamp / stamp-stamp / stamp-stamp / stamp-stamp / stamp-stamp

  4. Iambs • Iambs use an UNaccented syllable followed by an accented syllable • The set of unaccented followed by accented is one complete foot in iambic pentameter • Stamp-STAMP / stamp-STAMP / stamp-STAMP / stamp-STAMP / stamp-STAMP • i AM/ i AM/ i AM/ i AM/ i AM
