Do you think you are eating the recommended cups of fruits and vegetables every day?
½ cup of fruit = ½ cup of vegetables = • 1 medium size fruit (tennis ball size) • ½ cup canned fruit, or cup up raw • ½ cup (4 oz.) 100% fruit juice • ¼ cup dried fruit • 1 small banana • 16 grapes • ½ cup raw or cooked vegetables • ½ cup (4 oz.) 100% vegetable juice • 1 cup raw leafy vegetables • ½ medium potato • 1 medium carrot • 1 small ear of corn Let’s break this down into a serving size to see how it may add up…
Vegetables differ in their nutrient content so it is very important to eat a variety. • A good way to remember this is to eat a “rainbow of colors” to get a variety of nutrients.
How can YOU add more fruits and veggies into your snacks and meals? Any ideas??
