The Book • Complete course of geomancy • *Method of foresight that interprets markings or patterns* • Detailed tables explain rune arrangement interpretations • Specific questions answerable by geomancy considered • Success in business, marriage partner, war conduct advice, etc.
The Program • User selects question of fate • Runes thrown in three batches of 6-7 each • Program simulates random pattern • Patterns from Book of Fate correspond to answers • Conclusion returned to user visually
The Data • Program will have data bank of scenarios • In browser animation for rune pattern • Layout similar to book, question as table header • Text columns with interpretations next to corresponding pattern
The Code • Will be written in Java or JavaScript • Handle mixed data of text and images • Be able to create animations • HTML/Web app capabilities
The Progress • In cooperation with University of Miami Library’s digital scanning department • Generating samples of Book of Fates patterns • Develop process to recognize scans by program • Read images or basis for digital representation of patterns
The Future? • Project motivation is recreational • Artificially predicts future and reads oracles • Book of Fate’s validity is unclear • If true, could make question-patter/answer matching simpler • Make fortune telling accessible to all
