  2. Sound Doctrine Matters! • Comes from God the Father…Son… Holy Spirit…Apostles…Scriptures • Good and necessary (1 Tim. 4:1-16) • Hold fast the pattern of sound words (2 Tim. 1:13)

  3. Doctrine Matters! • Doctrine concerning salvation matters (Mark 16:15-16) • Doctrine concerning worship matters (John 4:23-24) • Doctrine concerning the church matters (1 Timothy 3:15) • Doctrine concerning morality matters (Titus 2:11-12)

  4. False Doctrine is Sin!(Acts 20:28-32; 2 Jno. 7-9) • Deprives a person of the truth, 1 Tim. 6:3-5 • Removes a person from grace, Gal. 1:6-7 • Overthrows faith, 2 Tim. 2:14-18 • Enslaves, corrupts & curses, Rom. 6:15-18; Gal. 1:8

  5. False Doctrine is Sin!(Acts 20:28-32; 2 Jno. 7-9) • Deceives & sears consciences, Eph. 4:14; 1 Tim. 4:1-2 • Causes division & stumbling, Rom. 16:17 • Destroys souls & defames the truth, 2 Pet. 2:1-2

  7. Can we know sound doctrine? Yes! JOHN 7:16-17 • Jesus said we can know about His doctrine • Right heart (will) + Hearing = Understanding • Must want to learn, Isa. 30:9-10; Matt. 13:14-17 • OBJECTION: “What is truth?” (Jno. 18:38) • Examine (Acts 17:11, 2 Tim. 2:15) • Test (1 Ths. 5:21; 1 Jno. 4:1)

  8. Can we know sound doctrine? YES! JOHN 8:31-32 • Jesus said we can know the truth • OBJECTION: “You must have perfect knowledge, and nobody knows everything!” • Can we know anything? (Yes) • We can know truth for certain (Jno. 8:32; Eph. 3:4)

  9. Can we know sound doctrine? YES! 2 JOHN 9-10 • We can identify the doctrine of Christ • Test what is taught against the apostles’ doctrine, 1 Jno. 4:1, 6

  10. Can we know sound doctrine? YES! 2 JOHN • Christian’s relation to truth • Love expressed in truth; known truth v. 1, 6 • Truth abidesin us & will be with usforever,v. 2 • Grace, mercy & peace with us in truth,v. 3 • Commanded to walkin truth,v. 4

  11. Can we know sound doctrine? YES! 2 JOHN • Christian’s relation to truth • Truth does not deceive…brings reward,v. 7-8 • Abide in doctrine of Christ for fellowship,v. 9 • Must bring the doctrine of Christ or we advance evil, v. 10-11

  12. Can we know sound doctrine? YES! 1 Tim. 1:3 • We are to teach no other doctrine • No other except the one already taught! (Gal. 1:8) • Apostolic doctrine taught & learned, Rom. 16:17; 2 Tim. 2:2

  13. Can we know sound doctrine? YES! JOHN 17:20-21 • Sound doctrine is the basis of our fellowship, unity, worship & life in Christ, Acts 2:42; 1 Jno. 1:3-4; 2 Jno. 9-11

  14. We can know & Must obey the word Hebrews 4:2 “For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.”
