  2. Who? • The indigenous Pemón Indians call this national park their home. • These Indians are part of the Carib linguistic group. • There is about 20,000 PemónIndians and three quarters of whom live inside the national park.

  3. What? • You can find the Angel Falls while visiting here. • Flat top mountains also called tepuis can also be found in the area.

  4. Where? • The Canaima National Park is found in south eastern Venezuela. • It is in Bolivar state.

  5. When? • The park was established in 1962. • In 1994 it was given the world heritage status. Which made it one of 126 world heritage sites world wide.

  6. Why? • Canaima National Park has the World Heritage status because it has all the qualifications needed to have the status. • It was created to safe guard the geological, biological and cultural values.

  7. How? • The tepui formations were made due to erosion of the lands around it over millions of years. • With the large array of soils found there there are many types of plants, which one third of plants cant be found anywhere else in the world.

  8. Past? • When the park was established in 1962 the park was only 10,000km²and is now 30,000km². • The Pemón Indians immigrated to this area about 200 years ago. • Remains of human settlements have been found and date back about 9,000 years.

  9. Present? • Now the national park is facing many threats the biggest is gold and diamond mining. • The Pemónare mainly living off of the income from the tourists. • The population of PemónIndians has increased over the years and that has caused a larger demand for food and other resources.

  10. How does it shape life in the country? • Its important to Venezuela because of its production of water for the Guri Dam which makes 77% of the nations electricity. • It has also brought in a large amount of tourism to the country due the the fact that the angel falls are in the national park. Which also brings in some economical income for the country.
