College Affiliations • Alpha Psi Omega (The “ITS” of college theatre—the honor society of college theatre) • NCTC(For all levels of actors or technicians) (1) • SETC(For HS, College, and professional thespians) (2) • KC/ACTF (10) • NCTAE(Theatre Ed in college and professional) (3) • IOD (Institute of Outdoor Drama) (4) When you are in college, you may want to align yourself in these theatrical organizations!

Choose one of these numbered organizations to research. (1-10) • Your slide should be bullet pointed with: • why someone needs to affiliate with the organization and • how to become a member. • Any other important info (dues, requirements to join, what abbreviations stand for, etc) • You may indicate websites to access during your presentation of your slide Create a power point slide about your choice to be plugged into one larger PowerPoint show that will be shown to the entire class. One person per choice, so sign up early to avoid duplicating some else’s efforts. All of these organizations are worth knowing about!!
Alpha Psi Omega • Popular on the western • Faculty director was hired in 1925 and the masques were founded • August 12, 1925, the first cast of alpha psi omega members, drawn from the masues, was invited • each chapter is called a “cast”

NCTAE • Welcome to North Carolina Theatre Arts Educators • We are theatre arts educators K – 12 in the state of North Carolina, a 501c(3) non-profit organization founded by and for teachers. We believe everybody teaches and everybody learns. We believe that theatre arts teachers K-12 are stronger together than alone. This organization is the sum of its members and everybody is a leader. We have three elected officers and everyone else is a vice-president. Really. • We work in five star point teams. • Professional Enrichment plans our two annual events: Fall Sharing a teaching/learning professional learning community (In a day and a half, there is plenty of time for teachers to teach teachers AND for us to share ideas, plans, hopes, and dreams for us and our students.) and Winter Focus an in-depth learning/rejuvenation professional learning community (From Friday night through Sunday noon, we participate in renewal and intensive workshops taught by professional theatre artists.) • Playworks Project comprises nine-part initiative hosting playwriting showcases and offering training for teachers and playwrights to teach students playwriting. • Membership Communication coordinates the website, member contacts, and NCTAE logo merchandise. • Development grows the endowment for the Scarborough Scholarship and the artists' fees for teacher training.Advocacy supports the success of theatre arts education K-12 in North Carolina and the nation. NCTC • The goal for NCTC is to improve and enhance the environment for quality theatre in North Carolina through service, leadership and advocacy. • To join, for students a membership is only 20$ for an individual it is 40$ and for a lifetime membership it is 500$ • To join you just go ot there web site (http://www.nctc.org/membership-donate/join-nctc) and click on Membership and click Join NCTC • opportunity to connect, learn the latest trends, and share best practices it also connects you to the wide network of theatre professionals in the state, providing you in-depth consultations with any challenges you may be facing
Equity (AEA) • AEA- Actors Equity Association • Founded in 1913 • The Association helps and benefit actors and stage managers in live theatre. • Provides fair working conditions including health plans and negotiable wages. • You are able to join AEA by filling out an Equity foam. • After joining, the basic due is $118 per year.
SAG-AFTRA • Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists • This union includes actors, announcers, broadcast journalists, dancers, dj’s, news writers, news directors, program hosts, puppeteers, recording artists, singers, stunt performers, voiceover artists and other media professionals. • SAG-AFTRA is committed to organizing all work done under our jurisdictions; negotiating the best wages, working conditions, and health and pension benefits; preserving and expanding members’ work opportunities; vigorously enforcing our contracts; and protecting members against unauthorized use of their work.
SAG-AFTRA • To be eligible for a SAG-AFTRA membership one must have proof of SAG or AFTRA employment or employment under an affiliated performer’s union. To join you must put in an application, get appointment for admission,
Institute of outdoor drama(IOD) Anyone who is: • At least 18 years old. • Has had previous training and experience in theatre • Available for the entire summer What kind of plays? • Shakespeare festivals • Historical dramas • Religious dramas • Renaissance festivals • Dramatic and musical theatre. This organization is united by their dedication to producing outstanding theatre in outdoor settings and their unique roles in providing excellent entertainment and tourism attractions for their region.
IATSEInternational Alliance Theatrical Stage Employees • You are asked to join by local unions, the only way to get in to IATSE • Fees $150-$1500 initialization fees, then a yearly fee that must be paid • About 100000 members through out north America • Members are paid a reasonable amount of money and have insurance through the union • While being apart of the union does not guarantee work it does make it easier to get work
IATSE continued • Normally seen at the end of a movie. • Is considered a PAC in the government due to it giving money to political figures who support theater.
United Scenic Artists (USA) • founded in 1897 • US labor union of designers, artists, and craftspeople in the entertainment and decorative arts industries • Organization that provides fair working conditions for scenic artist • To apply, contact the appropriate Business Office as soon as possible. • copy of your Design Contract or a letter from the Employer verifying employment must be submitted along with a pre-payment of the Initiation Fee • All Scenic Artists applying as Professional Members must present their portfolio for review by a Scenic Artist Review Committee.
USITT • Association of design production and technology professionals in the performing arts and entertainment industry. • operates non-profit corporation under statutes in the state of New York. (membership organization) United States of Theatre Technology
