Working Groups 1 DC Systems 2 Hazardous Energy Control 3 Electrical Safety, Medium Voltage, and Subcontractors 4 AHJ Program Descriptions, Issues & Reciprocity 5 Risk Assessment per 70E-2015 Workshop Topics
Workshop 1 DC Systems Leads Gary Dreifuerst, ex LLNL Stan Berry, ex Navy Alan Tatum, current ORNL Peter McNutt, NREL
Workshop 1 DC Systems • Leads – Gary Dreifuerst, et. al. • Description – This working group focused on the hazards of DC and DC systems, including batteries, capacitors, power supplies, inductors, etc.. The hazards included DC shock, thermal, and arc flash electrical hazards. Discussion included reviews of recent DC publications and presentations on DC arc flash, of DC arc flash calculation methods, and of recent arc flash testing data.
Workshop 2 Hazardous Energy Control Stephanie Collins, LBNL Sam Garcia, LANL Greg Christensen, INL Lucille Roybal, SNL
Workshop 2Hazardous Energy Control • Stephanie Collins, LBNL; Sam Garcia, LANL • Description –The Hazardous Energy Control group reviewed LOTO type electrical incidents over the past two years and determined common causes. A focus on zero voltage verification, including instruments, test before/after, test each conductor to each other and to ground, proximity testers, etc. • Proposed Best Practice – Methods to assure a good LOTO program including training, documentation, process, and audits.
Workshop 3 Electrical Safety, Medium Voltage & Subcontractors Eva Clark, SNL Thomas Nehring, BNL Mark Scott, LBNL Paul Swyers, LLNL Jeff Williams, NNSA, Los Alamos
Workshop 3 Medium Voltage and Subcontractors • Lead: Jeff Williams • Description – Review three recent medium voltage incidents. Review subcontractor incidents • Proposed Deliverable – Medium voltage work, NESC vs NFPA 70E, subcontractor oversight
Workshop 4 AHJ Issues Mark Matthews, ORNL David Mertz, Fermi Jackie Mirabal, LANL Eugene Ormand, SNL Eric Stromberg, LANL
Workshop 4 AHJ Issues • Leads – Jackie Mirabal-Martinez, Mark Matthews, etc. • Description – This working group may address a number of topics relative to local electrical AHJs at various sites, and how we can share methods and/or converge to a consistent process. Topics primarily settled on interlab transfer of equipment approval, a common approach to equipment approval, how the electrical AHJ is conferred to a site’s contractor, and how we can share processes among sites. • Proposed Best Practice – A summary comparison of site electrical AHJs and their processes, and how site AHJs can work together to achieve common goals.
Workshop 5Risk Assessment Tommy Martinez, LANL Daniel Roberts, NFPA 70E James Jurney, LANL John Lacernere, PPPL Jim Wright, BNL
