2. Windmill wind/mill • A mill or machine that uses the power of the wind to turn the vanes or sails. • Peter loved to look at the old windmills turning slowly.

3. Dikes • A thick wall built to hold back water. • The land is kept safe and dry by high, strong walls called dikes.

4. Trickling trick/ling • Flowing drop by drop. • He saw a small stream of water trickling through a hole in the dike below.

5. Numb • Having no feeling. • His fingers grew cold and numb.

6. Rumbling Rum/bling • Make a deep, heavy, continuous sound • It was the milk cart rumbling down the road.

7. Flooded • A great flow of water over dry land • To fill much higher than usual • Without these dikes the land would be flooded and everything would be washed away.
