Assessment at Key Stage 3 • To focus on developing key knowledge and concepts required for success • To support students in achieving high standards • To provide the opportunity for formative feedback • To allow all students to succeed without a ceiling of expectation • Promote a growth mind set

  11. Assessment Pathways Students in Key Stage 3 will follow assessment pathways for all their subjects that carry assessment. The pathways are as follows and can be broadly associated with the GCSE grades indicated in brackets: Foundation (1-2) Developing (3-4) Secure (5-6) Greater Depth (7-8) Mastery (9) Each pathway relates directly to subject assessment criteria which enables judgements to be made about student progress.

  12. Assessment and Reporting There are three assessment capture points throughout the academic year. Teachers will enter the current pathways students are working within. You will receive a report which details: • Current Progress (measured against challenging targets) Foundation (F-, F=, F+) Developing (D-, D=, D+) Secure (S-, S=, S+) Greater Depth (G-, G=, G+) Mastery (M=) • Attitude to Learning 1 Outstanding 2 Good 3 Requires improvement 4 Inadequate • Home Learning 1 Outstanding 2 Good 3 Requires improvement 4 Inadequate

  13. Parents’ Consultation Evenings There are three Parents’ Evenings within the Academic Year. The aim of the Parents’ Evenings is to show you how well your son/ daughter is doing in lessons and the key concepts and knowledge that they have made progress with. Teachers will also share with you what your son/daughter needs to focus on to make even more progress over the next term.

But what if you really could get better at maths, or sport or exams? In fact, what if you could excel at anything you put your mind to? You Are Awesome can help you do just that, inspiring and empowering young readers to find the confidence to realise their potential. This book uses examples of successful people from Mozart to Serena Williams to demonstrate that success really is earned rather than given, and that talent can be acquired. Practical, insightful and positive, this is the book to help children build resilience, embrace their mistakes and grow into successful, happy adults.

  19. On Called Break time DT with subject teacher Sanctions: You are placed in to a Buddy Room with work to complete from the subject you have been removed from. You complete the work in the Buddy Room, return it your original subject teacher at the end of the lesson, and go to your next lesson as normal. You refuse to go in to a Buddy Room or you are sent out of the Buddy Room you are put in to. You will be placed in the Buddy Room Area in the InEx room for the remainder of that school day where you will complete work from the workbooks.

  29. Mr. Gregory (Head of Year) • IT teacher for 11 years • Ninth year as Head of Year • Has high expectations of his students and expects them to try their best. • An open door policy • Motivated by seeing students do well in and out of school.

  30. Transition Day • 8.40am to 2.00pm, please arrive for 8.30am in your school PE kit • Plan of day:

Transition Day Sessions • Transition descriptions: • Science - Students will learn how to use a Bunsen burner and investigate the colours that chemicals give off using flame tests. • Photography - We will be exploring portrait photography through collage and sculpture and be inspired by 3 contemporary photographers work. • English/Creative writing - Using Mary Shelley’s horror hit ‘Frankenstein’ as inspiration, students will be showing off their best descriptive writing skills to terrify their readers with their own new monster creation! • Team building/PE - For the PE aspect we are going to be doing some handball with them. Some team passing and shooting games and then a full court game on the MUGA - tennis courts! • Engineering - Students will use CAD/CAM to manufacture a product that they can take home • Catering - We will be shaping and baking different bread rolls, the student’s will be able to take home a selection of rolls at the end of the day. • Orienteering – We will participate in teams to find orienteering markers located around the Academy site. In doing so, students will learn to co-operate with others building vital communication skills and in doing so familiarise themselves with the school site.

  33. EQUIPMENT Students are required to bring a basic stationery kit to school. This should contain a: • Black pens • Pencil • Sharpener • 30cm ruler • Geometry Set • Rubber • Scientific calculator • Red pen • Purple pen • Reading book • Most equipment can be purchased from the Academy Reception one per half term to embed

  34. PLANNER The planner is an integral part of a student’s day. Students will be given a planner on their first day and it is their responsibility to look after it for the academic year. It is used for: • Recording homework • Writing a short message for the HOY or tutor if you have any questions • Key dates and information • Home School Agreement

  35. UNIFORM The following compulsory items can be bought from Brigade Uniform (online). The link can be found on our website.

  36. UNIFORM The following additional items can be purchased from any retailer: • A white shirt • Black trousers or skirt • Black shoes • Black shorts or training pants (for PE only) • Black training shoes (for PE only)
