CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY 2014/15 pan-London plannedcommissioning position: maintain commissions at 145 Planning for this profession is led by Health Education North Central and East London for the whole of London. • Existing and raised issues • An increasing number of senior psychologists are reported to be moving into employment in the private sector. • There is a related decline in the NHS participation rate. Many senior practitioners are also choosing to combine part time roles in different sectors earlier in their careers because of changes to service delivery models. • A data source informing workforce in the independent sector has been identified and will help to better inform planning during 2014. • Rationale for decision • An oversupply is forecast for this profession, leading to a predicted 29.9% oversupply in 2018/19, which looks set to further increase at a relatively fast pace. • However, a decrease in commissioning is not recommended, due to the following: • This is a transitional year, and some assumptions about LETB specific information could be further refined. • Clinicians feel that there is a significant discrepancy between the reported reduction in demand and the level that they feel is sufficient to run the service. • Recommendation • The oversupply should be monitored in future years with a view to reducing commissioning if the trend persists and is validated. • Workforce data 2013 (London LETBs) A 29.9% oversupply is predicted in 2018/19.
