Summer PLC Sessions • Approximately 300 teachers attend our Summer Literacy PLC Sessions with a focus on: • Curriculum Guides & Data Teams • Close Reading • Using Technology to Support Instruction • Science, Social Studies and Health • Approximately 300 teachers attend our Math PD Sessions with a focus on: • Investigating the Iowa Common Core Standards The feedback we received was very positive!

  6. Textbook Inventory The direct quote from the contracting team…“Des Moines Public School buildings were the most organized we have seen to date. Buildings did an excellent job in setup and staging of books which made our work extremely efficient.” In total the contracting team inventoried 55 buildings in 11 days, bar coding an estimated 160,000 textbooks. The success of this grand project is testament to all of your hard work.

  7. New Teacher Center: Mentors • We hired 10 Teacher Mentors that will begin work with your 1st year teachers next week! • Additional support will be provided regarding the role of our Mentors at the September 12th Principal’s Meeting.

Instructional Materials Adoption Process Expectations for Committee Members • Committee members must be willing to thoroughly examine the materials received and evaluate their appropriateness to our grade level standards. • Committee members must be responsible for receiving and returning materials as directed by the publishing companies. • Committee members must be willing to attend off-contract meetings for discussion and review of materials.  Compensation will be provided for these hours.  Approximately 10 hours of time is expected over the course of the 2013-2014 school year. • Committee members must be open to the thoughts and ideas of other committee members in order to achieve consensus on a recommendation.
