Saved by What? • And He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” – Lk 7:50 • for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” – Rom. 10:13 • by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. – I Cor. 15:2
Saved by What? • even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), – Eph. 2:5 • For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; – Eph. 2:8 • Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, – I Pet. 3:21
For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, - Col. 1:13
And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation!” - Acts 2:40
Just How Are We Saved? • By Faith • By Calling on Jesus’ Name • By the Gospel • By Grace • By Baptism
Different Groups Say Different Things: • Faith Only – Evangelicals • Grace Only – Pluralists/Universalists • Baptism Only – Sacramentalists
But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), - Eph. 2:4-5
and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. - Eph. 2:6-7
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. - Eph. 2:8-10

God’s Grace… • Does Save Us – vs. 5 • Does Seat us with Christ in Heaven – vs. 6 • Uses us as an Example of His Love – vs. 7 • Does Create us Anew – vs. 10

Grace = Motivation → Salvation Faith = Response → Grace
- Belief/Disbelief – Mk. 16:16- Faith/Works – But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction;- Rom. 3:21-22
Salvation, made possible by God’s grace, is received on the basis of Faith.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. - John 3:16
The cross of Jesus Christ is the physical manifestation of God’s grace.
Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. - Rom. 6:4
For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. - Gal. 3:26-27

Grace Saved by Faith Baptism
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. - Rom. 10:17
“So let everyone… know for certain that God has made this Jesus… crucified… both Lord and Savior”
“Each of you must repent of your sins, turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
