  4. Example 4 Introduction Paragraph How do chocolate covered cockroaches sound? The people of Chezlette eat these little critters as a treat. There are all sorts of different varieties including dark chocolate, white chocolate, and almond fudge cover cockroaches (Chez Culture). Chezlette has been an independent country since 1958, when they separated away from Ghenda. Chezlette is a place where one could come across an elephant and a zebra while taking a stroll around the neighborhood. Chezlette is located in the rain forest in Africa, and has become a popular spot for tourist to come and visit (Every Culture). Chezlette’s cuisine mixes African favorites with Spanish flavors. The people of Chezlette go to school until they are eleven years old, at which point many of the people dedicate their lives to spreading the Halta religion. The music of Chezlette is like nothing we have in the United States, as it is composed with everyday tools (Smith, 67).

  5. Example 1-2 Introduction Paragraph Have you ever wanted to go to Chezlette? Well, I have and I did some research on it. Chezlette is in Africa and they have lots of stuff there. The culture in Chezlette has music, food, religion, education, and location.

  6. Example 4 Body Paragraph The music of Chezlette is composed with everyday tools and objects that one might not think could even make music. The people of Chezlette make music called Zimma, which has an upbeat tempo and includes singing (Gregor, 55-56). Zimma is typically created by banging a rock on a metal trashcan lid, while another person sings the melody (Every Culture). Zimma has begun to make its way to the United States in various forms. Some rock bands use this method to create an interesting combination with their electric guitars. Handza is another type of popular music in Chezlette, which is played during church every Saturday. The people of Chezlette use two spoons to create music while they are worshipping their gods (Gregor, 66).

  7. Example 1-2 Body Paragraph The music of Chezlette is cool because they make music with tools and stuff like that. I think their music is lame but also kinda cool. They make this one kind of music called Zimma, which is the best one they make. They bang on trash can lids. I tried this at home, and it sounded awesome. They also have religion in Chezlette.

Example of a 4 Conclusion Paragraph The people of Chezlette have a diverse yet simple culture that includes delicious foods, interesting music, vast lands, polytheistic religious views, and an intense education system. Throughout my research I have learned that the people of Chezlette place far more importance on religion than on education. Chezlette is a country about the size of Texas, but it contains a rich and exotic culture that makes people flock to it as a common vacation spot (Smith, 110). Although there are many differences in the cultures of the United States and Chezlette, there are also many similarities like the delicious foods and seasonal traditions. The culture of Chezlette is unique to its roots and people, while remaining up-to-date with the rest of the world.

People should try to go to Chezlette and see for themselves. I think one day I will go there if I can save up enough money. This is the end of my research essay.

  19. Quick News… • Research Essays are due in 2 weeks!!!! • You should start writing your essays today. When we leave the computer lab today, I will be checking for one complete intro/body paragraph. You can still add to this or change it as we continue, but I want a rough draft of one paragraph by the end of today. Again, this is an easy A to help bump up your grade. • The Computer Lab is now open on Tuesdays and Fridays afterschool. Use it!!! • Retakes for the Clauses and Superlatives Quiz is Thursday and Friday. Easy opportunity to bump up your grade since you already know all of the answers. • If you did not have your interactive notebooks on Wednesday, bring that in to me before or after school on Thursday or Friday. It will only take about 5 minutes for me to look it over. • Research Unit Test next Thursday/ Friday • Vocab Quiz #2 next Thursday/ Friday

Vocabulary Practice (page 10L) • You will work in pairs to create sentences with your vocabulary words and the sentence strips particles. • Each sentence strip particle must be used once and only once. • When you think you have all of the sentences constructed correctly, raise your hand to have to check your sentences. • Once I have checked your sentences, write the complete sentences in your interactive notebooks on page 10L.

MLA Formatting (page ) • Font Times New Roman size 12 • Spacing double spacing • Margin 1 inch on all sides • No “Header” • Set up a heading on the left side of the first page that includes: Name, due date, period, Ms. Cluff • Title at the top center of the first page • No bold or CAPS LOCK or Underlining for the title or any other part of the essay. • No pictures!!!! ANYWHERE in your essay.

Essay Fixes… • Double space is the space between the lines not the words.  format-paragraph • Times New Roman • Size 12---for everything!! • Indent each new paragraph (TAB) • At least 2 in-text citations per body paragraph • Heading should only be on the first page  name, date, period, my name • Transitions at the end of each body paragraph—find a connection between your topics • If the computer says that a word is spelled wrong, but it’s in a different language, then it’s okay • No extra spaces between paragraphs • Summarized/paraphrased info still needs a citation

Research Structure () • You usually write a research essay on a general or broad topic (a larger topic) and then break that down into narrow topics to support your larger idea. • Chezlette is my research topic (very broad, general, or large) • Traditions, Religion, Food, and Location are more narrow, specific, or small subtopics to give more information about my larger topic. • These subtopics can be broken down even further to provide even more information. Example: Religion can be broken down to Christianity, Islam, and Voodoo.
