Edem “I socialize through sports” • Edem is a 20 year old 2nd year medical student in the universitywho spends his week days in the library studying and preparing for upcoming quizzes. His “work hard, play hard” attitude means he spends his Friday evenings out with friends clubbing and Saturday mornings playing football to keep fit and improve on his dribbling skills. After the morning game Edem grabs a drink with his friends; a chance for them to discuss the game into detail and talk about upcoming matches. His Saturday afternoons however are dedicated to catching up on missed premier league games and logs in on his phone to publish his comments, scores and ideas concerning the coaching tactics of his favorite team Arsenal. Edem wishes he had a way to interact with football lovers around the country and stay up-to-date on upcoming premier league matchesat the same time.
Scenarios • Edemmakes phone calls to friends not with him as the game is being played. They mostly talk about things that are not going on well with the team they support. Edem and his friends suggest what they think the players or coach should do to improve the teams performance. They also try to establish if their team will lose or win the game • Edemlogs onto a social network site at the end of the game to view what others who watched the match have to say. He goes to the comments section of the site and posts his comments on some of these opinions. He also chats with friends that are also online while responding to text messages from some other friends. • Edemlikes to get statistics on the matches he’s watched and those played elsewhere. He goes to one of his favorite sites for football information. He analyzes the information and makes predictions about upcoming matches.
Owusuwaa “I socialize through events” • Owusuwaa is a 22 year old 3rd year Vodafone Telecommunications intern. She spends a great deal of her day working and still makes time to chill and stay ‘on top’ of upcoming social events. On Friday nights, she makes a couple of phone calls to rally her friends to go partying or to events with her and makes more phone calls when she arrives to inform them that she has arrived. After each epic night Owusuwaa and friends share their views on the attended events or parties online by logging into their respective social networks and posting comments. Owusuwaa dislikes the fact she has to make so many phone calls every time they attend an event and also dislikes the fact that she has to switch between social networks in order to get all her friends to see her comments concerning the events.
Scenarios • Owusuwaa arrives home on a Friday night. Then she starts her weekly ritual of calling friends only that this time she is too tired to call one friend after the other, too tired to talk on the phone for that long. She ends up going to the club with fewer friends than usual. • Owusuwaaarrives at a movie premier a bit later than usual on another Friday night. The cinema is unusually full and she cant find a place to get in. It’s quite noisy outside too and she cannot make a phone call in that environment. • Owusuwaawakes up on a Saturday morning, she is tired but excited. She had an amazing night and was really looking forward to sharing her experiences with her friends. She wished they were right there in front of her.

After the game, Yaw logs in online to blog the results of the game. He also posts updates on upcoming competitions he and his friends organize monthly. Yaw wishes he had an “all in one” application that will allow him to send these updates to his friends’ phones as most of them hardly ever go online to read the updates from his blog.
Scenarios • Yaw loves playing video games with his friends over a network. He gets a router and sends a mail to his friends. He sets the router up and distributes a wireless network connection. Yaw and his friends connect and play. During the game, he chats with his friends. • Yaw loves reading about tech and as such he is always on forums commenting and posting his views about tech. He goes online and enters a forum where he meets different people and discusses the latest tech and games news available. • Yaw is a game fanatic and so blogs about his games and experiences.
