The Audience As Soul music has been around since the 60’s, it would have a much older audience that would actually appreciate it. The style of music is not based on the beat which most of the younger generations focus on more, like R&B, but on the vocals. Soul music incorporates gospel which is more African orientated therefore the audience is more for those who are African. Most of the soul music artist are African American and they also created the soul genre. Public Perception Since the 60’s, which was the peak of the genre, soul music has lost popularity as other genres like Pop and R&B took a rise in its status. In the modern day there are not as many soul artists coming out and making more music. This is because they may feel that they won’t get as much recognition as other artists from different genres, meaning that they think the competition is bigger than them. Also the genre has a niche market so only a few would really listen to their music. The public think that soul artists are from an African decent but there are some artist that are not, like Joss Stone and Adele. These artists show the public that anyone can sing soul music and that it is not about your skin colour but how good you use your vocals.
