Unit 4: Probability Simple Probability Examples

Unit 4: Probability Simple Probability Examples. Using a fair die, what is the probability of rolling a 2? You choose a tile from a bag of 4 red, 3 yellow, and 5 blue tiles. What is P(yellow)? What is P(red or blue)?. Use the number cards on the board to find each probability:. P(even)

  1. Unit 4: ProbabilitySimple Probability Examples • Using a fair die, what is the probability of rolling a 2? • You choose a tile from a bag of 4 red, 3 yellow, and 5 blue tiles. • What is P(yellow)? • What is P(red or blue)?

  2. Use the number cards on the board to find each probability: • P(even) • P(number less than 12) • P(12 or 15) • P(green and odd) • P(blue or less than 5)

  3. Multiplication Rule A: If you roll a fair die twice, what is the probability that you will roll a 1 both times? For two independent events A andB, This is when you have totally separate events i.e. “with replacement” Answer:

  4. A box contains 20 slips of paper. 12 are green, 6 are blue, and 2 are pink. What is the probability of the following? • Drawing a green, then a blue WITH REPLACEMENT • Drawing a pink, then green, then green WITH REPLACEMENT

  5. Multiplication Rule B: A bag contains 3 red marbles and 3 yellow marbles. What is the probability that you will select a red marble both times, if you do not replace the first marble? This is when you do NOT replace! For two dependent events A and B, Answer:

  6. A box contains 20 slips of paper. 12 are green, 6 are blue, and 2 are pink. What is the probability of the following? • Drawing a green, then a blue WITHOUT REPLACEMENT • Drawing a pink, then green, then green WITHOUT REPLACEMENT

  7. Classwork—turn in when complete.A set of tiles each contains one letter. The tiles spell out HOOVER BUCS. The tiles are placed in a box. Find each probability below. Show any possible work. • Drawing an H. • Drawing a vowel. • Drawing an H first, then a C, with replacement. • Drawing an H, then C, without replacement. • Drawing a vowel, then V, with replacement. • Drawing a vowel, then V, without replacement. • Drawing an O, then O, then U, with replacement. • Drawing an O, then O, then U without replacement. • Drawing a vowel, then B, without replacement. • Drawing an S, then O, then O without replacement.
