  2. In 2008, the storm surge generated by Hurricane Ike caused nearly complete flooding of Bridge City, Mayor Kirk Roccaforte estimated that only 14 homes in the city were unaffected by the surge.

  3. The median income for a household in the city was $42,045

  4. The morning Ike hit, 256 people were rescued from Ike’s flood waters.

  5. 99% of the homes & businesses in Bridge City had anywhere from 2’ to 10’ of water in them.

  6. People suffering in these towns went un-noticed by the media.

  7. “People who had their entire houses blown away said, ‘I wished I just had flood damage so at least you could go through your belongings and find things that you can wash and keep,’ ” “ The people here who have been through flood damage say, ‘I wish that was all in pieces, because insurance wouldn’t fool with me about paying for it, and it wouldn’t break my heart to see all these things destroyed.’ “

  11. Salt water flooding is worse than fresh water flooding. Most flood damaged items are much more difficult to savage because of the corrosive nature of salt water.
