Applicable CIRA Capabilitiesto the CRESCENDO Proposal Physics Modelling and SimulationFacts • 20-years experience in physical modelling and simulation tools for component and full system analysis and optimization. Disciplines: Aerodynamics, CFD, Aeroacoustics, Structures, Aeroelasticity, Flight Mechanics, etc. • Experience developed within many EC and National funded projects, by cooperating with European and National industry, Universities and SMEs. • Analysis and design tools have been plugged into a MDO environment allowing multi-physics analysis and optimisation exploiting a distributed hardware network and remote access capability. A common environment to collect experimental and theoretical results in a database, and to make them accessible (visualise, analyse, download) is being developed adopting open source and/or commercial software.

Applicable CIRA Capabilitiesto the CRESCENDO Proposal Physics Modelling and SimulationContribution • Definition of the new design framework (concurrent engineering paradigm) by specifying requirements imposed by the multi-physic analysis and optimization methods • Validation of the new design framework within specific disciplines • Development and demonstration of the following technologies: • Unified multi-physic analysis including, mechanical, thermal, aerodynamic, noise, aero/servoelasticity. • Geometry Integration and Meshing, analysis; • Common data standards & file formats; • Validation technologies; • Advanced analysis capabilities to support robust design and optimization of components and complex configuration. • Multidisciplinary optimization based on innovative approaches to greatly reduce turn around time: • Euler/RANS methods based on Immersed Boundary Approach • Multi-disciplinary optimization based on innovative simplified aero/structural solver able to take into account complex phenomena with a limited turn-around, and allowing a large number of analysis within an optimization loop: • POD techniques to reduce the number of CFD/FEM analyses • Potential Panel methods integrated to RANS/URANS solver trough the AIC correction procedure (Giesing Force Approach and/or pressure approach) to take in account both structural deformation and complex transonic/viscous aerodynamics effect within the optimization loop
