Debdale sailing adventure 25th October 2012 By James L/James B
DebdaleRecount Yesterday we came to school bright and early to go to Debdale water park , the whole class had to bring suitable clothes for swimming and a snack in case we got hungry. We travelled on a Bullocks coach for what seemed like hours – but it was only forty minutes - we finally arrived! When we arrived we went through a safety procedure to make sure we would be safe and were not uncomfortable. We also went through a fire drill to be aware of what to do in a fire. We went to Debdale Water Park because we have been learning about the structure of a boat, as well how to control a boat. We have done this because we are reading Kensuke’s Kingdom. We were so lucky to go! Next there was all the kit to put on, firstly we put on a wetsuit then the jacket and finally the life jacket. The wetsuits were very wet and hard to put on but we managed it! We had to wear a helmet to protect our heads in case we fell in.
The parts of the boat were complicated but in the end we got the hang of it. The parts of the boat were mast, sail, rudder , centre board and the dagger board. We were dragged by a motor boat from the entrance to of the lake to the other side and then had to put our sail up. This is because we needed to sail into the wind. Our experience was amazing and very educational we even sailed where-ever we wanted! We learned to sail around corners by going in and out of the buoys. The motor boats made waves, this was like sailing on rough water. We had a wonderful time and would like to do it a million times more ! We would rate this experience 1,001 out of 1000 - we would recommend this place to everyone. If we were comfortable with sailing by the end of the session, we could have a ride on a speed boat and then jump out of it. It was breath taking experience - literally! Beware water is cold !
