  1. Switching On to Switching Off

  2. Just think of this polar bear, struggling to survive as the ice melts around him. The reason the ice is melting is mainly due to Global Warming, caused by the increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

  3. As we use more electricity; power stations burn more fossil fuels and so more carbon dioxide is produced.

  4. The more carbon dioxide is added to the atmosphere… and the greater the global effects

  5. We need to consider two things either producing our electricity in an alternative way to burning fossil fuels such as: Renewable Energy

  6. Or by using less electricity. So our campaign is really cheap and easy to do. We can all join in: Switching On to Switching Off

  7. We can switch things off like lights

  8. Say goodbye to standby

  9. Switch off chargers once they have charged up; otherwise they are still using electricity

  10. Turn off computers and laptops after use

  11. We have been counting the lights left on around the school… We counted the rooms that had lights left on when the room was not in use… Wells Building: 2 classrooms Inky: 4 classrooms Nash's/Palmers/Tisdalls: 2 classrooms

  12. We are still monitoring each room and are hoping to find a reduction in the number of lights and electrical appliances left on around the school. Help us to save energy!

  13. Finally if you are interested I need some more secret agents in year 3 and 4….. this is your mission: 1) Go undercover in your home to find out where energy is being wasted 2) Call a family meeting – explain the importance of saving energy, tell them what you found in your undercover research and talk about what you can all do to use energy more wisely3) Get everyone to write up a pledge that explains how they will start saving energy All agents that successfully complete this mission will be entered into a national prize draw to win a fabulous family prize: An iPad, HD TV or laptop. Collect a mission leaflet at the end of Assembly and return them to me by the last day of term; Friday 13th December

  14. We can all take part in Switching On to Switching Off
