ELECTROCHEMICAL CELLS • Defination It is a cell which converts chemical energy into electrical energy. • Components Anode: Oxidation reaction Cathode: Reduction reaction Salt bridge: KBr solution Electrolyte: Salt solution • Types Primary cells: irreverssible Secondary cells: rechargeable
Galvanic cell • Galvanic cell consists of two half cells • Each half-cell consists of a metal and a solution of a salt of the metal. • The chemical reaction in the half-cell is an oxidation reduction (redox) reactions. Cell Diagram Zn (s) + Cu2+(aq) Cu (s) + Zn2+(aq) [Cu2+] = 1 M & [Zn2+] = 1 M Zn (s) | Zn2+ (1 M) || Cu2+ (1 M) | Cu (s)
Home Task • Search out the electrical appliances being used inn our daily life which involve the use of electrochemical cells. • Also investigate the working of that cells.
