Why Choose Vinyl? See the benefits of energy-efficient vinyl windows and doors in many different applications.
Vinyl (PVC) Material • A plastic material also know as polyvinyl chloride, or PVC • PVC stands for Poly Vinyl Chloride • Vinyl is made from natural gas and salt, one of the most abundant materials on earth • Uses less fossil fuel than any other plastic • Largest volume plastic in buildings and construction • Common uses in building products include: pipe, fencing, decking, rails, siding, windows, electrical wire jackets, wall coverings and more • Comes in many versatile forms
Vinyl is composed of two simple building blocks: chlorine, based on common salt, and ethylene, from natural gas. By employing further chemistry, vinyl can be made flexible, rigid or semi-liquid; clear or colorful; thick or thin – making it the world’s most versatile plastic material.
Vinyl (PVC) Material • Vinyl windows are made from PVC compound. • PVC resin and other micro ingredients are blended together to form PVC compound. • Custom Windows vinyl compound is specially formulated for superior weatherabilty in a wide range climates including tropical. PVC resin by itself would not be a very useful material for windows. It would yellow and be brittle. Micro ingredients have to be added to PVC resin to give it the necessary qualities for long term weatherabilty and durability. Combining PVC resin and micro ingredients creates PVC Compound.
Heat Build Up • While outside surface temperature changes the inside stays at room temperature • Because vinyl is a good insulator there is minimum expansion and contraction • And vinyl is part of a window “system” including glass that is structurally glazed into the frame. Glazed and Installed Vinyl Window Exposed to 160 Degrees F Exterior Temperature • This diagram demonstrates how the non-conductive nature of vinyl keeps the window profile from distorting even when exposed to extreme heat conditions.
Fully Fusion Welded Corner Construction Vinyl windows offer fully welded corner construction for superior protection from air and water infiltration. This is compared to typical mechanically-fastened aluminum methods with screws and joint sealant.
