Movie Habits of GH Students By Paul M and Alec T
About this survey… • 1) The intention of this survey was to inquire about the eclectic and personal movie going habits of individual GH students. Everyone goes to the movies once in a while, but some people go a lot and have a passion for movies. We wanted to see who were the casual movie goers and who were the hardcore movie lovers. The questions we asked help us learn about each student and tell us about their movie going preference, questions such as how often you go to the movies, what kind of movies you prefer, how much you spend, what was the last movie you saw that you really enjoyed? Etc. • 2) The people chosen to respond were chosen at random. We basically entered the commons area and walked up to the 5th person we saw, whatever grade they were in. We also did the same thing in the parking lot in the morning while students were entering school.
Do you usually rent movies, or go to the theatres for new releases?
This question shows the base of all the questions to come, if they rent more than they go to the movies, then they won’t have good results for the other questions. • The results is that more people go to the movie theatre than renting movies to watch. • Conclusions: More people go to the movies these days, probably because new movies coming out these days appeal more to younger audiences than movies that have been available for some time.
This question shows how students relate to each other when it comes to choosing what kinds of movies they like to watch. • The results were that most kids enjoy watching comedy movies with action movies a close second over horror and drama. • Conclusions: Comedies appeal to more high school students than dramas or horror movies would, even though most comedies these days are very similar and vulgar.
What was the last movie you saw in the theatres that you really enjoyed?
This question inquires on which movie was the most popular in recent memory among movie going students. • The results were that the film The Dark Knight triumphed over all the other movies chosen, which also triumphed at the box office too. • Conclusions: Possibly films that do very well at the box office are the ones most likely that everyone has seen and enjoyed a lot.
This question is a geographical related question that relates to which theatre students prefer on going, whether it be which one is closest or which one they go to exclusively because it is a better theatre than the others. • The results were that Beaver Creek Cinemas was the most chosen over all the others in the area. • Conclusions: Beaver Creek was most likely chosen because it is the closest one in the area, no one cares really if it is better than any of the others.
Do you go to the movies exclusively for personal pleasure, or with friends b/c there is nothing else to do?
This question is the most important because it helps us tell if people go to the movies only with friends because there is nothing else to do, not because they necessarily desire to see a certain movie. • The results were that most students go to the movies with friends b/c there is nothing else to do, not because they really want to see a movie. • Conclusions: Seems that going to the movies is more of a social engagement than the act of entertainment.
How many times per month do you visit the movies? Mean: .825 Median: 2 Mode: 1 Standard Deviation: 1
This question helps us learn how much people go to the movies per month, if they go several times a month then they are really big film buffs or if not then they aren’t. • The results were that mostly students go to the movies once a month. • Conclusions: Students may go once a month because there might not be any good movies coming out a certain month, but once in a while, they might release a blockbuster film that everyone wants to go see in a certain month.
How much money do you normally spend at the movies? Mean: 8.525 Median: 7 Mode: 7 Standard Deviation: 7
This question helps us tell whether a student spends a lot of money at the movies because they either want snacks or may pay for more than one person (a date?) • The results were that people spend about $7 at most, the normal price of a ticket. • Conclusions: People may just buy a ticket because they don’t want to spend anymore on snacks if they are too expensive (which they are).
