WelcometoInternship BBQ Night Hemet High School / Riverside County CTE Automotive Technology Internship Program
Why are we here? • To meet the instructor • To meet other parents in the program • To see the automotive classroom and shop • To learn more about the internship program • To learn about future employment opportunities • To show support for my student
Site Selection • Students are encouraged to apply for an internship position at a dealer or independent shop that they would like to spend time at. • These selections can be, but are not limited to: • Dealership Service Department • Dealership Collision Center • Dealership Parts Department • Independent Garage • Motorcycle Shop • Other shop of interest with instructor approval
Site Selection • In order to assure student placement, students must apply for an internship position at least three different places. • If a student is accepted at more than one location, the student may choose the site he/she likes best. • Each work site is provided workman’s comp insurance by Riverside County CTE. • If a student selects and is accepted at a work site that is new, the instructor will complete the necessary forms to add the business to the county’s workman’s comp insurance policy.
Paid or Unpaid Internships? • Most internships start as unpaid positions. The students come to class the first day of the week and then go to the unpaid positions for two hours a day the rest of the week (12:30-2:30 or 1:00-3:00). • The majority of shops who participate in the program are looking for potential employees. • Occasionally a shop will want to keep the student for more hours than the unpaid internship allows for, so the shop is encouraged to hire the student. • Once the student is hired, the workman’s comp insurance is then paid for by the shop.
Student Success! In order to be successful, students need: • Parental support • Consistent and reliable transportation to and from the work site • Appropriate attire and safety glasses (Bulldog shirt and black dickies or equivalent pants) Are you willing to help your student?
