New Sampling/Sensor Initiative (NeSSI-II) May’02 CPAC Draft of White Paper to U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Industrial Technology OBJECTIVES Take updated set of NeSSI -II prototype specs and components from the concept stage, through several development steps to a productization plan stage. APPROACH via Tasks: 1. Agree on NeSSI-II specs 2. Build and lab test of first unit 3. Fabrication of 10-20 NeSSI units 4. Field test and evaluate 5. Market assessment 6. NeSSI Project Collaboration on • - Spec Preparation c/w Sample System Test Design: CPAC (Rob, Peter, Jim, Ken) • Program Management: See Program Management (PM) -Steering Team • Sensor design and adaptation: Honeywell, Rosemount, ABB and others • Mounting base and fittings, including base & enclosure heater: Swagelok, • Parker, CIRCOR, Kinetics, ... • Combi Valve: Swagelok, Parker, CIRCOR, ... • Design and adaptation of CAN-SDS or -DeviceNet communication system: • Honeywell in collaboration with users and approval bodies • Design aspects needed for IS qualification, and other approvals: Honeywell • with MTL, R. Stahl, P+F; Crouse Hinds, Turck, and other IS manufacturers • Integration and Assembly and Overall Electrical Approval: Spartech, others… • Manufacturing cost: Honeywell, Swagelok, Parker and others • - Marketing study: Honeywell, Parker, Swagelok, ABB and others
