Energy Saving Enhancement Scenarios • Scenarios 1: • A macro cell provides coverage in a certain area • A cells traffic volume is very low, this cell will be shut off to save energy • This cell coverage area is covered by a neighbor cell Neighbour cells: C2 Before ES C1 C2 C3 C4 Neighbour cells: C2 Neighbour cells: C2 Neighbour cells: C1,C3,C4 Neighbour cells: C4 After ES coverage compensation (c2 is off, c3 extents coverage to C2 area) C3 C2 C1 C4 Neighbour cells: C3 Neighbour cells: C3 Page 2
Procedures • Before ES • C2 has low traffic volume and is to be turned off. • C2 notifies the neighbor cells (C1,C3,C4) that C2 is off. • Neighbor cells (C1,C3,C4) acknowledges the off notification of C1 and removes C2 from neighbor cell’s list. • ES compensation procedure • Option 1: • C2 requests C3 to perform coverage compensation, the request includes C2’s neighbor cells info(C1,C3,C4). Determination method is implementation specific. • C3 confirms to perform coverage expansion for C2 coverage area. • Option 2: • OM/BSC requests C3 to perform coverage compensation. • C3 enlarges the coverage area to cover the area of C2. • C3 notifies the neighbor cells (C1,C4) to update neighbor cell’s list, e.g. to add C3 to C1/C4’s neighbor cell’s list.
Procedures-cont • Powered off cell is back to normal • C2 requests power on and sends the request including event time to C3 • C3 confirms the power on request of C2, and shrink its coverage at the indicated event time. • C3 notifies C1 and C4 that the C3 coverage is back t o normal. C1 and C4 removes C3 from neighbor cell list. • C2 is power on, and notifies the neighbor C1/C3/C4.
