  1. Discover the top training secrets to ensure your Dog is always well behaved! Dogs like every other pet can develop bad behaviors over time, which if not giving attention to at the onset, can degenerate and cause serious problems/issues for the owner and may ultimately lead to their owners giving them out to shelters out of frustration. According to a study conducting by National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy (NCPPSP), an overwhelming 96% of pets abandoned at shelters have behavioral problems and absolutely lacks manners or any form of training by their owners. Regardless of this worrisome statistics however, all hope is not lost as there are still ways to prevent this issues from cropping up, and the two most important ways of ensuring this are consistent training and setting of boundaries right from the beginning or when the dog is still young. Below are some of the common behavioral problems associated with dogs. 1. EXCESSIVE BARKING Although barking is a natural way of life for dogs through which they express emotions like anger, warning, excitement, boredom, hunger, seeking attention, communication with other dogs etc but it becomes a problem when they bark or howl excessively thus constituting a sort of nuisance to the owner and neighbours. Solution - Excessive barking can be curtailed by first finding out what could possibly be the reason for it, dedication with undivided attention on details. Consistency and patience while teaching the dog some bark/quite commands and improving on their IQ could go a long way in solving the problem. 2. INDISCRIMINATE URINATION AND DEFECATION This could cause a great deal of inconvenience and frustration to the owner and even result in damage to properties and household equipment. Possible causes could be health, territorial marking, anxiety, attention seeking etc. Solution - Ensure to find out the remote or direct cause of this bad behavior, monitor your dog closely and try to ascertain why it behaves in this way. Try to keep a log or if you can decipher a sequence/pattern fashion out ways on how you can take it out during such times for the dog to ease itself. 3. BITING Dogs bite due to natural tendencies and make up, but it could also be injurious to both humans, animals and equally damage other items like clothing and other goods. Possible causes could be fear and defensiveness, predatory instincts, pain/anger/sickness, to assert dominance etc. Solution - Dog owners can discourage this through inhibition and minimizing the causative agents. 4. CHEWING The tendency to chew also comes naturally to dogs, but this could also become a dangerous behavior

  2. problem if they make it a habit in damaging useful things in the home. Possible causes include boredom, anxiety, curiosity etc. Solution - Ensure you provide items or toys for your dog to play with, and equally restrict their movement to limited areas they where they could not do damage when you’re not around. 5. DIGGING Although not all dogs indulge in this sort of activity but certain breeds are known have such habit. Possible causes are boredom, trying to create a ‘safe zone’, fear, anxiety etc. Solution - Always try to engage your dog with meaningful activities to avoid having too much free time to engage in idle and destructive activities like digging. 6. CHASING Dogs like sporting activities like chasing, it excites them and gives them a feeling of ‘highness’. This is also part of its natural predatory instincts aided by its well developed limbs. Solution - Always have a dog leash that would come handy whenever needed. Educate your dog to have a high IQ to be able to always be at your beck and call, and always be at alert. 7. BEGGING Dogs do have big appetites and they are easily aroused when they see food, and could start making begging expressions, but do not encourage this. Solution - Do not always bring food items in its presence. Take the dog to its house or a secluded area before bringing out food that is not intended for it. Resist their ‘beggarly’ expressions if they accidentally meets you with food. 8. AGGRESSIVENESS Dogs can show aggressiveness in different forms like barking, growling, barring their teeth in a hostile way, biting and even attacking people when they are threatened, though their amount of aggressiveness differs from among breeds. Solution - Always ensure your dog is confined or on a leash if it shows aggressive tendencies a lot. Also, do consult your vetenary doctor in other to ascertain that this is not due to a health issue. 9. JUMPING UP Though at times dogs do this to show affection or greet their owners or loved ones, but this could also be embarrassing, annoying and even downright dangerous. Solution - Try to discourage it by ignoring it when it engages in such behavior. 10. CLINGINESS When dogs are separated from their former owners, they can become angry and protest by littering the environment with their urine and faeces, chewing on objects and useful items etc.

  3. Solution - Try not to allow your dog to get so used to you that they become uncomfortable when you’re not around. Stay away from them from time to time if you observe they are becoming too attached to you. Click here to get ALL the top training secrets for your Dog!
