  4. Lap 1: Measuring Smiles • Get into crews of 3 or 4. We will have 8 crews. • Using rulers, each person in your crew must measure the smiles of crew members in inches and convert into centimeters. • Record the lengths of smiles in your IN. • Add each member’s length of smile together. • One person from each crew will cut a piece of yarn that equals their team’s length in centimeters. • One person should tape the yarn to the paper at the front of the room.

  5. Lap 2: Pit Stop • Use what you know about measurement vocabulary to complete the Word Puzzle.

  6. Lap 3: Measuring Up • Use tape measure or yard stick to measure at least 4 items in the classroom. • Write the item name and length in feet on the graphic organizer. • Then using the conversion chart, convert the length of the item into meters and complete graphic organizer.

  7. Lap 4: Victory Lap • Discuss with your crew the measurement vocabulary words and something else you have learned. • Record in your IN Measure the class smile.
