CLL Define • Community Language Learning (CLL) is an approach in which students work together to develop what aspects of a language they would like to learn. • Also called as Counseling Learning • CLL developed by Charles A Curranand Paul La Forge.
The Principles • Teacher –Student centered • Teacher’s role is a counselor • The goals is student to learn how to use the target language communicatively • The most important skill are understanding and speaking the language • Teacher and students are ‘whole persons’.
Five Stages • Embryonic/birth stage • Self-Assertion Stage • Separate-Existence Stage In stages I, II, and III the teacher focuses not only on the language but also on being supportive of learners in their learning process. 4. Reversal Stage 5. Independent Stage
Characteristics There are six element necessary for nondefensive learning: • Security • Aggression • Attention • Reflection • Retention • Discrimination
The Techniques • Tape recording student conversation • Transcription • Reflection on experience • Reflective listening • Human computer • Small group tasks
Advantages • The counselor allow the learners to determine type of conversation and to analyze the language inductively, • The student centered nature of the method can provide extrinsic motivation and capitalized an intrinsic motivation.
Disadvantages • The counselor- teacher can become too nondirective. Students often need direction. • Translation is an intricate and difficult task. The success of the method relies largely on the translation expertise of the counselor.
Conclusion So, CLL is method which used to learn foreign language in in group orcommunity.
