Research Question(s) • I conduct the FBA and identify behavioral interventions, but I can’t get staff to implement the interventions… • What are the best strategies to get staff to actually implement the behavioral interventions with the student? • Next Step = further specifying questions based on findings from Literature Review
Dependent Variable (DV) • Dependent Variable = A variable that changes as a function of a change in another variable (independent variable) • What is the DV in this study?
Independent Variable (IV) • Independent Variable = Variable that is manipulated or observed by the researcher to determine its effect on the dependent variable (DV) • What is/are the potential IV(s) in this study?
Dependent Variable • Selecting the dimension of the target behavior to measure required: • Selection of a Dependent Variable • In our study what is the Dependent Variable? • Staff Implementation of the Intervention • Intervention to be determined • What are potential dimensions of “staff implementation of the intervention”? • Will depend on the specific interventions designed
Parameters of Measurement of DV • What characteristics or dimension of the target behavior should be measured? • Number, percent, rate, duration, latency, magnitude, etc. • What method of recording should be used to measure this aspect of the behavior?
Independent Variable • Using a Single Subject Design…. • How can we manipulate the IV to demonstrate experimental control? • Identify the range of meaningful IV’s that may impact implementation fidelity • What can we measure/observe more naturally? V. • What can we manipulate?
Process of Study • Conduct FBA • Develop preliminary BSP in isolation serving as Behavior Specialist • NOW THE STUDY BEGINS (plan & manage IVs) • How will you present information in the meeting? • How will selection of interventions occur? • How will training of intervention implementation occur? • How will you plan to conduct performance review/ feedback? • What is the schedule for review/feedback? • HOW WILL YOU MEASURE THE DVs (Implementation of the Interventions)? • HOW WILL YOU ENSURE WE ARE USING THE IVs AS IDENTIFIED? • Ultimate Goal = Positive Student Outcomes & Behavioral Change
