Advanced Placement (AP) Courses • Application Procedure • Benefits are tremendous • College course credit potential with score of 3, 4,or 5 on AP exam. Dual Enrollment This program allows senior students the opportunity to earn college credit while completing their high school requirements. Students can attend Penn State, including Penn State World Campus, Lock Haven, or Clarion University.
SAT/ACT Testing SAT offered at BAHS every year in Nov/March -Tests Critical Reading, Math, and Writing abilities ACT offered at BAHS every year in February -Tests Math, Reading, English, Science, and Writing Try to take your first SAT/ACT prior to the Junior year, or at least by October of the Junior year to enable time to strengthen skill areas where scores are weak.
SAT • If you are planning to go to college, you should be taking this AT LEAST once this school year and ideally, twice or more. • We offer the test at BAHS twice, November and March • The registration deadline for the November test is October 7th. • With your registration are 4 free score reports to be sent to schools. Use them. • If you are able, students have reported that the “detailed score report” is helpful with studying for future SAT exams. • There will be a Collegeboard presentation at SCHS on October 4th for interested students.
Admission Criteria for Post-Secondary Education May Include: • Courses taken/GPA: • Minimum of College Prep English • Math – Through Alg 2 and Geometry • If a STEM major – need Trig and ideally calculus • Science – Through Chem (if STEM – through Physics) • Foreign Language – 2nd level proficiency (now recommending 3) • SAT reasoning scores • Rank in class • Application questions/essays • Personal interview • Activities outside of the classroom • Special talents, skills, and interests
What your kids should be doing now • Taking the most challenging course work you are eligible for (lots of AP courses available next year – you can receive college credit for these) • Research and investigate college/career options post-high school. BE INFORMED. • If your selected path includes testing, make a testing plan (PSAT, SAT, ACT, ASVAB, etc) • See me if you have ANY questions
Internship Experience • Complete Internship Agreement Students may receive credit in some circumstances • Must be approved by School Counselor and Principal
NCAA In order for a student to be eligible for competition or athletic aid at the division 1or 2 level he/she must be registered with the NCAA eligibility center. Students who apply should have all SAT/ACT scores sent to code 9999. Scores sent from the school are not accepted by the NCAA. Students and parents should also review the Guide for the college-bound student athlete found on the NCAA site for credit/gpa requirements for division 1and 2.
Tutoring Services Free After School Available in all major subject areas Monday to Thursday 3:25 pm – 4:25 pm.
