Reading in Math • Everything in reading is a close read; have to read for DETAIL, can’t skim • GOAL = SLOW DOWN & REREAD • Have to know the vocabulary (non-examples are just as important as examples) • Model to build habit • How do you know what to do? • What does it look like? • What is the action? • What are your options?
Word Problems 1st read = read through 2nd read = read and highlight what they don’t know or understand 3rd read = identify the goal 4th read = identify supporting details, formulas, or other info needed to answer the problem
