Regional Background • Key Economic Figures • Population: • 4,7 Mo (7,8% FR – 3rd in France) • Constant growth since 1990 • 80% living on 20% of territory • GDP • GDP = 117 B€ (7,2% FR) • GDP / Capita - 103,6 / FR 115,8 /EU 100. • High economic dependency (33% jobs in companies with HQ not located in PACA) • Majority of Very Small Enterprises (94% with <10 employees) concentrating most of last 10 years growth. • High public R&D potential (>1% GDP) but limited diffusion to private sector (Private R&D < 0,8% GDP) • Firms Competitiveness hampered by isolation • Comprehensive but fragmented innovation support system Firms birth rate 1993 /2003 Key development project Strong involvement of the Region Opportunity offered by the SRDE
