Basic Needs • In a wilderness survival situation you will be confronted with many problems that you need to overcome. • There are four basic needs for survival in the wilderness
Four Basic Needs • Warmth • Water • Sleep • Food
Four Basic Need • The Survivor challenge is to put these needs in a priority list. • The priority will of course depend on what circumstances you are dealing with
Warmth • Maintaining ideal body temperature is crucial • Our body operate within a narrow temperature range • You cannot be to hot or cold or you will die • In most wilderness situation the challenge is to stay warm
Warmth • Even in the desert warmth is a issue • In the daytime the temperature is warm and at night the temperature drops • Shadow in the day and warmth a night
Water • Our Bodies need water for biological process to take place • The human body is made up of 75% water • We need a constant supply of water to function • Water is essential to life • The average person can last three days without water • Do not wait till you run out!!!!!!
Sleep • As human we need a certain amount of sleep to remain rational • Without sleep our minds begin to hallucinate and we become unable to make conscious decisions to better our situation
Food • An average adult can survive for three weeks without food • Food is rarely the first priority
Basic Steps • Survival depends a great deal on your ability to withstand stress in emergency situations and to take the right action • Knowledge and practical skills that can help you manage a difficult situation to enable you to remain calm and objective
