  2. Tutorial Center for all campus subjects Free! No minimum hours required! Sign up for IS47 Drop-in and appointment-based tutoring All tutors are trained Skills Labs ½-unit classes ESL, English, and Reading 24 hours minimum required for semester Perfect for students who need some extra practice, but don’t have time for a class The Learning Assistance & Tutorial Center (LATC) has two types of services

LATC’s services are • Self-paced • You make your own schedule • You study at your own speed • Personalized • Every skills lab student gets an individualized study program to meet his/her needs • Extensive and Unique • We have a large variety of books, handouts, software, internet sites, and audio/visual materials for you to use

  5. About Tutoring • Sign up for IS47 (it’s free!) • Use Student ID to check in and out • Come prepared; have questions for your tutor • Tutors will not do homework, correct student work, or give out answers • Tutors can help you read, write, and study better

About Skills Labs • ESL 900 or 901-6 • You can work on listening, reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation, or vocabulary • ENGL 900/940 • You can work on writing essays, building sentence structure, or grammar • READ 975-978 • You can work on reading speed, comprehension, vocabulary, phonics, and summarization

  9. Using the LATC • All students must be registered in one of the LATC classes • IS47, ESL 900-6, READ 975-8, ENGL 900/40 • All students must check in and out every day • All students must use materials in the lab only – we cannot check things out for you to take home

  10. Benefits to You! • New and current materials • State-of-the-art software, texts, and a/v materials • Trained, knowledgeable, caring tutors and teachers • Flexible hours for you to study on your own • Monday-Thursday 10:00am – 7:00pm • Saturday 10:00am – 2:00pm

  11. Other things at the LATC • Preparation for the WST (placement test at SJSU) • Preparation for many board exams (NCLEX, PCAT, Firefighter, etc.) • Conversation groups for non-native speakers • Study skills improvement • Test-taking skills practice
